KUALA LUMPUR : More
than 10,000 Telugu people attended the celebration of the Ugadi Open House 2018 including myself and one of my Telugu friend to celebrate the arrival of
the new year for the Indian second ethnic group according to Tamil calendar. The

Bala and it was also attended by the President of Telugu Malaysia Association,
Datuk Dr. Achaiah Kumar Rao.

The fifth anniversary of its
organizing held at Dataran Merdeka was also celebrated with various cultural
and religious events in accordance with the customs of the Telugu community. Telugu
ethnic traditions includes ponggadalu, ariselu and burullu (traditional cakes
based from rice flour) also became the focus of the crowd during the
celebration.

It was my first time attending
that particular celebration. Along the way, I can say that I really enjoy the
celebration as it really different from my own celebration. This celebration also
attract tourists, and this means we have the opportunity to celebrate the fun
in a wider fraternity environment. There were some foreigners and local
Malaysian people attending the celebration. A lot of good foods were provided
during the celebration. As we enjoy those delicious foods, one thing we need to
note is that although the method of preparation of sweets and cakes were different, the ingredients used for the delicacies still same and commonly
used by the other ethnics.
